Hi Hamish,
I'd like to have a further discussion with you about the scope of your project. But in short, there is a decent amount of design and testing involved. Since you have a virtual infrastructure, I would definitely recommend creating a new VM to serve as a new 8.5 Server and upgrade a copy of your existing 8.2 database. Once the database upgrade is successful, and you test the updated clients against the test-8.5 database, you should then feel confident to upgrade your production 8.2 database. Just keep in mind that if you have multiple WorkSite Servers, you will need to update the software on all WorkSite DMS Servers to 8.5 in order to communicate with the 8.5 database. You also need to make sure you are running the WorkSite Indexer 8.2 SP1 P2a, in order for the Verity index to work with the 8.5 server.
Please feel free to check out my author page (http://blogs.kraftkennedy.com/index.php/author/podolsky) where you can send me an email with any further questions.

Thank you,
Brian

Hi Guys
We are looking at doing a upgrade from 8.2 to 8.5 We have had a quote from our support people that seems very high $30KUSD. Was just wondering is there a lot of work as this seems very high to me. Your thought would be great.
More info

1.1.	Upgrade the existing Worksite 8.3 Service Pack 1 / 8.2 Service Pack 1 environments to Worksite 8.5

1.2.	Upgrade the existing FileSite 8.2 SP2 and Email Management for Outlook (EMM) 8.2 Service Pack 1 Patch 8 clients to 8.5

1.3.	Upgrade the existing WorkSite Web 8.2 Service Pack 2 client to 8.5

4.	Identify possible Constraints/Risks/Dependencies.

We have a full VMware enviroment so do you think we should upgarde straight into production or do test enviroemnt first as we can snapshot the enviroemnt.

We are doing this to go to WIN7 as XP support is running out and Authonomy will not support version 8.2 on WIN7.

Thank you in Advance

Nick,
No problem. We've seen Local Application paths occasionally get corrupted with iManage 8.5 and Windows 7. There's a quick workaround, but we're going to retest after 8.5 SP1. We've seen some stability issues with the EFS as well, and will be testing the SP1 client against the latest WCS build. If you have any further questions or want any assistance, please check out my author page on the blog. You can send me an email with any details you are looking for.
Thanks,
Brian

Hi Nick,
Thank you for your question! Yes, internally at Kraft Kennedy, we have been running iManage 8.5 with Windows 7 and Office 2007 for over 6 months now. We know of a few firms who are working on this initiative right now. It has worked well, and is the entire environment has certified support from Autonomy iManage. There are a few issues that both we and iManage are aware of. I would recommend testing it out now, and you should see some stability improvements once the 8.5 SP1 clients are released.
Please let us know if you'd like any assistance.
Thank you,
Brian

Ben, Kraft Kennedy is actually in the process now of getting field-test software for WorkSite FileShare. We have some early documentation as well. No doubt it has been delayed, since we were told last summer that it was going to be released in 2009. However, if I had to guess, I would say it is within a couple months of release. I will share more of my thoughts on it after installing the field-test version soon.
Thank you,
Brian

Is WorkSite FileShare anywhere near ready to even demo, beta, anything? I saw the webinar on it mid last year and, until now, it's been nothing but vaporware. It'd be nice to see it as it could really help me convince some folks here of the need to shove things into the DMS and not file shares, but, until it actually ships, it's not even worth discussing.
