<description>Thanks to a Twitter Comment from @gilwood_cs - he reminded me that I also wrote a piece on Disk I/O management and optimization to further remedy the problems caused by the intensity of resource hungry, non-mission critical applications..

The Disk I/O control piece can be read here:

Again, hope this helps

Cheers

		<description>Hi.

From our (AppSense) years of experience in SBC environments, I am all too familiar with non-work related processes consuming valuable shared resources such as CPU, Memory and Disk.

For years we have been installing AppSense Performance Manager into thousands of end user environments to more effectively manage and optimize resource consumption. In this particular case, a combination of CPU Cycle Thread Throttling (to reduce CPU usage) and then applying a lower priority share factor to the Screensaver process will ensure Screensavers are not able to take valuable CPU time away from other, work related or mission critical applications..

I have written a short piece on CPU share factors here: http://appsense.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/fair-sharing-cpu-usage-on-citrix-xenapp-to-ensure-quality-of-service-and-faster-response-times-with-appsense-performance-manager/

(albeit I wrote this particular article with a XenApp farm in mind, but the technology has proven effective for thousands of VDI users too)

Hope this help, thanks
